FISHING

The estate has salmon and sewin (sea trout) fishing over several beats through the local angling club. We also have a small boat for hire for sea fishing mostly mackerel and bass.

CASTLES

There are many local castles to explore, from our local Dinerth castle, just half a mile away down the valley, which was last sacked in 1062, to Aberystwyth Cilgerran.

WALKS

A large number of interesting walks are available, varying from our own woods, coastal and cliff walks to fairly easy mountain rambles.

BIRD WATCHING

Due to the varied habitat and coastline there is an abundance of song, estuary and birds of prey, including red kites.

The House

Monachty, which translates as "house of the monks" was originally a hospitium, or guest house, of the great Cistercian Abbey of Strata Florida 20 miles to the north. The Abbey was founded in 1164 under a charter of Rhys ap Gruffydd. This Charter states that the sons of Cadwgan and his wife Gwenllian gave the commote of Anhuniog to the Abbey of Strata Florida so one can assume that the hospitium was built not long after that. An hospitium was used as an overnight stop by travellers on their way to the abbey. For an evening meal, a bed and breakfast they gave a donation to the abbey according to their means.
